ive been a little bit behind on this dw season but i finally caught up and honestly ive been quite enjoying it! lots of thoughts so i thought I'd talk about belinda first
i like belinda a lot, she feels very grounded and honest and she cares so much. the fact she's a nurse and house sharing with a bunch of people she's clearly not good friends with with a shitty landlord is so real of her because that is how plenty of people in the uk are living well into their 30s like her. also the fact that she isn't like 19 is nice too, she's got a career and life experience and it's a good change from the typical companion archetype, which i felt ruby really embodied in the last season.
also, belinda matches the doctor in a different way to a lot of modern companions, who tend to become immediately enamoured with the doctor because they're longing for adventure and to explore the universe. her first instinct is always to care - to seek out the people, to help them - which other companions have too, obviously, but the excitement of these new places and times come secondary to her, and has developed over time. she didn't immediately jump in the tardis after the doctor saved her and travel with him. she just wants to get home.
belinda has only become closer with the doctor through necessity because he can't get her home and they're stuck together until he manages it. she clearly cares about the doctor but doesn't idolise him. and honestly I would enjoy the story arc of the current season even more if they'd drawn that out a bit; she calls him dangerous, right off the bat, and it could've been interesting if she'd taken longer to warm up to him - because she has a point, the doctor does have a habit of dragging people into danger even when they're trying their best to save them. fifteen is one of the most forgiving and openly caring doctors we've seen, and i think had belinda met, say, ten, she wouldn't be nearly as quick to trust him. i really hope we get an episode where she holds him accountable, because a lot of the recent companions haven't really been challenging the doctor as much as i think she would.
im looking forward to the rest of the season! lots of interesting plots so far. and i would absolutely die for belinda chandra.

tomura shigaraki x reader; 2,931 words
A/N: this was a request I got last year, i'm not a huge expert in hurt/comfort because i have no idea how to do the comfort part, so here you go, a reader who does little to no comfort because i'm clueless as well.
CW: hrut/comfort; tomura not liking his kid; thoughts of suicide; le me know if I need to add anything else !
Tumblr media
It was honestly shocking how things went on after the league became the Paranormal Liberation Front; nothing that you could have predicted could compare. For starters, Hawks wanting to join your cause was honestly a bit of a joke in your opinion, considering the fact that he wasn’t just some hero but the №2, but since Dabi, well, Tōya, let him in, you figured that it was fine until he tried to kill Twice, and you and Dabi had to step in, barely saving him from the clutches of death. Speaking of which, Dabi being a Todoroki was not something anyone had expected; it certainly explained why he kept this whole loner with a secret identity persona up for so long, even after all this time that you all had bonded and basically became each other’s family.
And the war, it was such a horrible experience that you still have nightmares about it. The only bonus was that those UA kids had the empathy to let you all go, helping you fake your death and escape to form new lives away from any sort of criminality. Izuku going as far as to personally check up on you and Tomura when you two went to the UK to keep a low profile. And once you were 100% positive that your new identities were bulletproof, you could check on the others. Toga had the opportunity to stay in Japan under the surveillance of Uraraka and… Bakugō for some reason; you guessed it was because he trusted his classmate and her judgement to back her up when needed without any questions. Both of them vouched for her rehabilitation, given the circumstances that she was still a minor and that she wasn’t given the proper support when she was a kid. Twice was staying somewhere in the US with Spinner and Mr. Compress; the last time you spoke with them, they were in LA, where everyone was too preoccupied with themselves to notice Japanese criminals. Tōya had also stayed in Japan, reconciling with his family and happily watching Endeavour undergo a trial for all the abuse that he put his family through. He could even sometimes visit the two of you, going to the UK and using vacation as an excuse, with no one questioning it because Shōto would go alongside him.
And now you and Tomura, or Tenko as he was now calling himself, were living happily as a little family with a 5-year-old son that had no idea about your highly criminal past, only the made-up story about how you were immigrants from Japan that didn’t like how many heroes there were back at home, which honestly was kind of truthful considering you did not like the amount of heroes in Japan, just not for the reasons he would assume. Haruki (元稀) developed his father’s quirk, which at the beginning freaked out Tenko, considering how that turned out for him in his childhood. At first, he was even a little negative about it; he didn’t like seeing him; he only saw himself, saw how he would kill the two of you, how he would destroy everything that he had worked so hard for; it tore him from the inside.
“Tenko?”
He was sitting on the rails of the balcony of your shared flat when you had called him, letting his feet hang in the air. He remembered the first few times how he thought about jumping down, thinking about how this was all useless, that in the end this whole fake life wouldn’t work in the end, and he would have to be dead in the end after all, so at least it would be by his own ways and decision. Thankfully, he never had the guts to commit the act, not when you would be the one to see him like this, not when you would be the one shedding tears and blaming yourself for his decisions before eventually following suit.
He turned around, his ruby eyes looking back at yours. You liked seeing his natural eyes, recalling his true identity every time you two were home or in some secluded area when you could take off your disguises. It felt weird looking at that same face you loved for the past twelve years with different eyes and hair every time the two of you went out, so you were thankful for every single moment he wasn’t wearing his usual disguise around you.
You sat beside him on the railing of the balcony, leaning against his side as you looked into the distance, admiring the city view. The sky was grey, as always. At first you found it strange compared to the usual blue skies of Japan, with the rain accompanying it being ever so consistent, sometimes paired with the lightning and thunder that made Tenko jump out of his seat the first few weeks, even though he would be too proud and deny it every time you brought it up.
“You’re thinking about Haruki again.”
Silence, as always. Ever since your kid discovered his quirk, Tenko ignored everything that concerned your child. You didn’t like it, but you understood his concerns. The trauma that he went through in his childhood, much less the rest of his life, was painful enough, so you could understand how it affected his perception of your kid, the worry that he had concerning his future, especially since you two agreed that you would tell him the truth when he was old enough to not freak out on the two of you and not blabber about your real identities to his friends or teachers.
“I would have much preferred if he had your quirk, or even none for that matter…”
This was also something that he started saying frequently after your son got his quirk. You frankly didn’t know what else to do other than sigh and take his hand in yours for some sort of comfort, either for you or for him, you didn’t bother thinking about it much. You didn’t know what kind of support to give him in this situation; you didn’t even know if he would go past this phase of hating his own son. You hoped so, but given how he was acting around him, you started to suspect that it was just wishful thinking. The wounds of the war were still fresh in his mind, and having his son being a constant reminder of what he was capable of, of the things that could possibly happen, he could not just ignore the warnings that his brain was sending him.
You never had this kind of family problem that turned you into a villain like the other members of the league, or just other villains in general; nor you never even had a “villainous” quirk that you were bullied for by the cruel members of society. Your parents were just working with Giran, making weapons for his associates and keeping a low profile so that they wouldn’t have problems with the law. And you just had to meet up with the infamous leader of the League of Villains while giving new equipment to Toga, and he just had to make you join after seeing how useful your quirk would be for him.
And that’s why you decided to call Izuku. Of all the people that you could call to help you out in this situation, it was him. Tenko got really close with him after he helped you flee the country, and he understood how certain quirks could change a person’s life, given the fact that he was born quirkless, as he had explained to you two as he started visiting and checking up on you two after the war. You also called Tōya to visit so that your husband wouldn’t get suspicious about your intentions and because the two of you really needed to catch up after the last time he visited.
They both of them arrived like a week after you had called them, quickly making time to visit given the urgency of the situation, as you had explained over the phone. When you went to see who knocked on your door, the moment you saw the spiky white hair out of your peephole, you opened the door and jumped out to hug him, almost making the younger boy fall in the process.
“Damn, I hope you hug your husband like that as well; I don’t want him to be jealous.” He teased, grinning down at you as he returned your hug.
“We made a kid together; I think I made it clear who I prefer between the two of you.”
As you greeted the two of them, Tenko just made his way out of the bedroom; the only difference between his usual dead expression and this one was the smile that he gave Izuku and Tōya as he saw them at the entrance. He walked towards the three of you, hands in his pockets as he greeted them.
“You seriously need to stop flirting with my wife you tosser.” he said, walking towards the three of you slowly.
You grinned at their banter, finally letting your Izuku come in whilst Tōya was too busy playing with your kid to even enter into the leaving room. When you turned to look behind you, you saw Izuku already talking to your husband, a sign that soon enough there were some feelings to be shared, and you didn’t want to interrupt, so you ushered Tōya outside, leaving your kid in the house. You decided that it would be best to catch up with your old friend and let Tenko be open with you when he was ready, so for the time being you and Dabi went on the roof.
You two sat at the edge of the building, gazing upon the civilians that walked through the streets, rain violently hitting their umbrellas or their hoods. You and Tōya also had an umbrella to protect you, though at this point you were used to being soaking wet from the numerous times you got your umbrella stolen back home or not properly checking the weather when going out. You both stayed silent like this until Dabi finally spoke up:
“I guess if you called, it must have gotten pretty serious.” He turned to look at you; the muscles of his face didn’t move an inch, but you could read his eyes, full of worry not only for you but Tenko as well.
“H—he ignores Haruki completely.” You started, already feeling tears coming up, no matter how much you tried not to cry in front of him. “I know how he feels; I understand him, his feelings, but I… I don’t know how to help; I don’t know how to talk to him about it. I—”
You couldn’t hold it in anymore; you started sobbing, hiding your face in your hands as you tried to stop. Tōya hugged you, comforting you as best as he could while wishing that everything would turn out for the better. He trusted Izuku on the matter, and while it was obvious that one conversation wouldn’t change Tenko’s whole attitude towards the subject, he would try to be better, and he would try to make it easy for you, to help you understand what you needed to do to support him.
Inside your flat, Izuku was playing with the kid as he talked to Tenko about his issues, even though it was difficult for him to open up at first. It’s not like he hated the kid; of course not, he would never hate him; he was his flesh and blood, his only family besides you. But his quirk, was something that he couldn’t just accept. He knew how it would affect him, how it would affect other’s view towards him, and perhaps he would end up a villain, because what else can people become when they are pushed over the edge ?
“I don’t hate him, you know… It’s just his quirk; you know how it will affect him in the future. How people will perceive him. It will be the same story"
“I get that, believe me. I know how people will treat him. But that’s exactly why you shouldn’t let it affect you; he will need your support and your guidance. Now more than ever.”
They talked more about the issue until you and Tōya came back. You and your husband bid them goodbye before settling in your living room, with you nuzzling into the crook of his neck as he mindlessly traced patterns on your back. You sat in silence, afraid to talk, or more precisely, start the talk. And you guessed that it was the same for Tenko. But you had to do it eventually, and he cared enough to take the first step.
“I’m scared. I know it’s unreasonable, but I am.” He looked down at you, waiting for any kind of answer, just something to tell him that you didn’t blame him for his feelings.
“I… I don’t know how to help. I don’t do emotional stuff.” It could have sounded harsh, but judging by the softness of your voice, how he could hear it break just a little bit, he knew that you weren’t dismissing him. He chuckled a little, wrapping his arm around you just a bit tighter than necessary for comfort. “Me neither. But we’ll manage, won’t we ?”
You looked up at him, a weak smile on your face at your husband’s positivity. And the first time since Haruki’s quirk awakening, you became confident that everything would turn out as you hoped: you, Tenko, and Haruki living as a happy little family with no problems in your way, just joy and bittersweet memories.
“We will.”
It was five years later that you decided to tell Haruki about your pasts and secret identities, and for a ten-year-old child, he took the news very well. Maybe it was because he was still young and the two of you were generally open with your son about a bunch of other stuff. Either way, the two of you were glad that it turned out this way. But he quickly decided that he absolutely needed to meet your old friends from the League, which was mostly easy with Tōya and Toga, not so much with Twice, Spinner, and Mr. Compress, who never stayed in the same place for too long. At this point you were pretty sure that they went everywhere besides the African continent, not that they weren’t planning to hide there as well at some point in the future.
So here you were, sitting on the sofa of a large living room in Bakugo’s house where everyone from the League and some of his friends gathered to catch up. Toga was particularly eager to meet your kid, commenting on how he looked so much like you yet had the same personality as his father’s, which she described as a tragedy. Tōya was also very quick to declare himself as his only fake uncle, claiming that he was the closest to you and Tenko, while Twice complained about it and kept bugging Tenko to confirm that they were besties.
Overall, you were happy. You had the perfect life, the perfect friends, the perfect kid, and the best husband that you could wish for, who was currently sitting down next to you after Twice finally let him go and went to annoy Spinner instead.
“How is it that I’m younger than him yet he’s the one tiring me out?” He mumbled, throwing one hand over his face in exhaustion, which made you giggle.
“That’s what happens when you have a kid.”
He turned towards you, a fond smile on his face as he leaned to press his lips against yours. You remembered how dry it felt the first time you kissed him and comparing it to how soft his lips felt now, as if it had only been yesterday. A lot of things felt like they only had happened yesterday, and yet at the same they felt so distant due to the striking contrast. But you cherished those memories, they weren’t all positive, far from that, but it’s your dark past that had helped you built such a promising future, not just for you, but for the future as well, and you wouldn’t trade it for anything else.
“And I wouldn’t want it any other way.” It was like he read your thoughts, as he pressed his lips against yours one more, smiling against you and you did the same. You two felt lost in the moment, everyone around you completely disappearing as you savoured your moment of intimacy, until you both heard Dabi let out a comical scream. Sure enough, it was Toga teaching your kid how to throw knives, and what better victim than his supposed fake fun uncle ?
“Should we stop her ?” your husband asked, not even pulling an inch away from you.
“Nah, let them bond. Plus it’s payback for how many times Dabi flirted with me.” That made him turn to look at you, a questioning glare on his face that made you laugh.
“Before we were a thing, he’s not that kind of arsehole” you explained, already sensing his annoyance from just the look that he was giving you.
“He better not be. Or I’m gonna have to re-enter my villain era” he said before kissing you again, a little more roughly. Damn it you knew how to get on his nerves, and damn it did he enjoy it.

Roy Ayers
Jazz-soul vibraphonist and band leader best known for his laid-back summer track Everybody Loves the Sunshine
When Ruby Ayers, a piano teacher, took her five-year-old son Roy to a concert by the Lionel Hampton Big Band in California in 1945, the boy showed so much enthusiasm for the performance that Hampton presented him with his pair of vibe mallets. Roy Ayers, who has died aged 84, would go on to blaze a trail as a vibraphonist, composer, singer and producer.
A genre-bending pioneer of hard bop, funk, neo-soul and acid jazz, Ayers was most famous for his feel-good track Everybody Loves the Sunshine, from the 1976 album of the same name.
He said that the song was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York on, naturally, a warm summer’s day. Among those who feature are Debbie Darby (credited as “Chicas”) on vocals and Philip Woo on piano, electric piano and synthesizer. Woo explained that Ayers did not like to work from charts or scores, with the song based around a single chord that the band in the studio then developed.
While it was never released as a single, Everybody Loves the Sunshine’s warm, jazz-soul sound has won it numerous admirers over the past 50 years. As well as being sampled hundreds of times, by artists including Dr Dre and Mary J Blige, the track has also been covered by musicians ranging from D’Angelo to Jamie Cullen.
Perhaps the sheer simplicity of the song’s structure explains its appeal to such a variety of musicians. The hazy chords set up a steady state condition that allows the performer room for manoeuvre. D’Angelo covered the song in sweaty desire; Cullen’s Live in Ibiza version is as light and moreish as your favourite ice-cream; the Robert Glasper Experiment cover is edgy, an exercise in deconstruction. Other notable versions include the electronica-infused track from the DJ Cam Quartet and the modern jazz take of trumpeter Takuya Kuroda.
Ayers was born in the South Park (later South Central) district of Los Angeles, and grew up on Vermont Avenue amid the widely admired Central Avenue jazz scene during the 1940s and 50s, which attracted luminaries such as Eric Dolphy and Charles Mingus. His father, Roy Ayers Sr, worked as a parking attendant and played the trombone. His mother, Ruby, was a piano player and teacher.
He attended Thomas Jefferson high school, sang in the church choir, and played steel guitar and piano in a local band called the Latin Lyrics. He studied music theory at Los Angeles City College, but left before completing his studies to tour as a vibraphone – or vibes – sideman.
His first album, West Coast Vibes (1963), was produced by the British jazz musician and journalist Leonard Feather. He then teamed up with the flautist Herbie Mann, who produced the “groove” based sound of Virgo Vibes (1967) and Stoned Soul Picnic (1968).
Relocating to New York at the start of the 1970s, Ayers formed the jazz-funk ensemble Roy Ayers Ubiquity, recruiting a roster of around 14 musicians. At this time he composed and performed the soundtrack for the blaxploitation film Coffy (1973), starring Pam Grier as a vigilante nurse. The Everybody Loves the Sunshine album was released under the Ubiquity rubric, reaching No 51 on the US Billboard charts, but making no impact on the UK charts.
His 1978 single Get On Up, Get On Down, however, reached No 41 in the UK. He also scored chart success with Don’t Stop the Feeling (1979), which got to No 32 on the US RnB chart and 56 in the UK. The track was featured on the album No Stranger to Love, whose title track was sampled separately by MF Doom and Jill Scott.
Tumblr media
Ayers was a regular performer at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club in London during the 80s and his shows there were captured on live albums. Other live recordings include Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival (1972) and Live from West Port Jazz Festival Hamburg (1999). Ayers played at the Glastonbury festival five times, with his last appearance there in 2019.
A tour of Nigeria with Fela Kuti in 1979, and a resulting album, Music of Many Colours (1980), was just one of many fruitful collaborations. Ayers also performed on Whitney Houston’s Love Will Save the Day (1988); with Rick James on Double Trouble (1992); and with Tyler, the Creator on Cherry Bomb (2015).
A soul-funk album, Roy Ayers JID002 (2020), was the brainchild of the producers Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad. The latter was a member of the hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest, who had sampled Ayers’ Running Away on their track Descriptions of a Fool (1989), and Roy Ayers Ubiquity’s 1974 song Feel Like Makin’ Love on Keep It Rollin’, from their 1993 Midnight Marauders album.
Ayers also collaborated with Erykah Badu on the singer’s second album, Mama’s Gun (2000). The pair recorded a new version of Everybody Loves the Sunshine for what would be Ayers’ final studio album, Mahogany Vibe (2004).
“If I didn’t have music I wouldn’t even want to be here,” Ayers told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s like an escape when there is no escape.”
Ayers married Argerie in 1973. She survives him, as do their children, Mtume and Ayana, a son, Nabil, from a relationship with Louise Braufman, and a granddaughter.

Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, Chapter 4
Pairing: Platonic Steven Grant x Reader (for now)
Rating: T
Word count: ~2600
Story Summary: Steven meets a beautiful woman in the Egyptian exhibit at the British Museum...
...Too bad she's his new boss.
Tags/Warnings: Canon Divergent since Steven still works for the British Museum post-canon, No Jake Lockley, developing friendship
A/N: Here we are with the next chapter! As always, please let me know if you want to be tagged in this or any of my other stories!
“...And that concludes our tour,” Steven said to his final tour group of the day. “Please don't forget to check out our shops and café, located right here on the ground floor, and remember that memberships are available for purchase and help support the museum.”
He waited until the group had disbursed before heading back to his office to collect his messenger bag, also grabbing his umbrella as a rumble of thunder sounded overhead.
“Heading out?” Ruby, one of the tour guides, said as Steven passed through the Programming staff area.
Steven nodded. “You’re on tomorrow, yeah?”
“Yeah, I'll be in tomorrow, but if it's okay with you I need to switch my Thursday shift. I have an exam on Friday morning that I need to prepare for.”
Steven made a mental note. “That ought to be fine. Just let me know who you wind up switching shifts with.”
“Okay, have a good evening.”
“You too.”
Steven headed out of the museum, surprised to see Dr. Y/L/N standing under the entryway and peering out at the rain. “Afternoon, ma’am.”
Dr. Y/L/N turned and smiled at him. “Hi. Headed home?”
Steven nodded. “Are you waiting for someone?”
“Oh, no.” Dr. Y/L/N gestured out towards the rain. “I'm just waiting for it to stop raining so I can go ahead and walk home. I didn't bring my umbrella today and don’t really want to have to take a cab since I live nearby.”
“Oh.” Steven held his umbrella up. “Well I’ve got mine, so I can walk you home if you’d like. Plenty of room under here for the both of us.”
Dr. Y/L/N hesitated. “It’s very kind of you to offer, but I’d hate to make you have to go out of your way. I’m sure Gus is waiting for you.”
Steven shook his head. “Gus’ll be fine. I left the telly on for him so he’d be entertained while I was at work.”
He grinned as Dr. Y/L/N let out a light laugh. “Such a good fish dad,” she joked. “Are you sure you don't mind?”
Steven nodded. “Absolutely.”
“Then in that case, I accept. I really appreciate it.”
“It's not a problem.” Steven opened his umbrella and raised it above his head, the light scent of Dr. Y/L/N’s perfume filling his nose as she joined him underneath it.
He took a deep breath. “Right, then. Lead the way.”
They headed down the steps together, the gentle sound of the rain falling adding to the rhythm of their steps.
“So, how are you?” Steven asked. “I haven’t seen you around much the past few days.”
Much to his relief, Dr. Y/L/N really was open to collaboration and had so far been a very hands-on and communicative director. She had implemented weekly meetings consisting of all of the heads of department so each section could share their progress on various projects and she would frequently check in with each department individually to make sure everything was running smoothly and to see if anyone needed help with anything while still giving the museum staff more than enough autonomy to where (as far as Steven knew) no one never felt like she was micromanaging.
“Oh gosh, I’ve been crazy busy,” Dr. Y/L/N replied. “Just in the past 3 days I’ve had a 4-hour-long conference call with all of the UK’s museum directors, a bunch of interviews and other publicity stuff regarding the new permanent exhibits, plus I had to prepare the annual statistics report to present at the board meeting tomorrow afternoon -- which reminds me, the number of paid tours and new museum memberships have both gone up exponentially for the third month in a row.”
Steven nodded. He was proud of all the hard work the Programming staff had put in since he had taken over the Visitor Engagement Specialist role. “The Programming staff is pretty great.”
“You’re pretty great.”
Steven’s face heated as he looked over at Dr. Y/L/N, who was looking back at him with a slightly nervous look on her face.
She cleared her throat and looked away. “I mean, if it wasn't for you revamping the tours and coming up with the idea for a membership drive I really don't think we'd have seen the slightest difference in numbers. You've proven yourself to be a wonderful team leader.”
Steven's face heated at the praise. “Thank you, ma'am.”
Dr. Y/L/N bit her lip. “Hey, um, since you’re not in a hurry, can I buy you a cup of coffee as a thank-you for walking me home? There’s a coffee shop nearby that I sometimes stop at on my way to work.”
Steven couldn't help but smile, pleased to have an excuse to spend even a few extra minutes with Dr. Y/L/N. “I, er, I don't actually drink coffee, but I’d love to have a cup of tea with you.”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded, a smile spreading on her own face. “Oh, right, okay. Well great! It's right this way.”
They headed down the street to a small café, where they paused together under the shop's awning while Steven shook his umbrella out so it wouldn't drip all over the shop’s floor.
He opened the door for Dr. Y/L/N. “After you.”
“Thank you.” Dr. Y/L/N led him inside and over to the counter.
“Afternoon,” the barista, a dark-haired man who appeared to be in his early twenties and whose name tag read Michael , greeted them. “What can I get started for ya?”
Dr. Y/L/N gave her coffee order.
Michael nodded as he tapped at his computer screen. “And for you, sir?”
Steven eyed the tea selection. “Er, yeah, can I get a cup of Earl Grey, please?”
Michael tapped at his screen some more. “Anything else?”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded. “Mmm, can I also please get a scone?”
Michael nodded. “Of course ma'am.”
Dr. Y/L/N turned to Steven. “Steven, you want a pastry or something?”
Steven briefly studied the display of baked goods. Tea was the cheapest thing on the menu, and Dr. Y/L/N had offered… A small snack wouldn't hurt. “Maybe a chocolate croissant?”
Michael tapped at his screen once again. “Okay… And a name for the order?”
Dr. Y/L/N pulled her wallet out of her purse. “Y/F/N.”
Michael tapped at his screen a few more times. “That’ll be £11.43.”
Dr. Y/L/N swiped her credit card through the card reader and signed the receipt.
“I'll have that out for you straightaway,” Michael said as he moved over towards the coffee machine.
“Thank you.” Dr. Y/L/N turned back to Steven. “Want to go sit while we wait?”
Steven nodded. “Sure.”
They headed over to a table for two tucked away in a cozy corner of the café.
Steven looked around as they sat. The walls were lined with bookshelves containing a mishmash of novels, non-fiction books, and various knick-knacks.
Reminds me of my flat. “This is quite an interesting little place,” he said. Do you come here often?”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded. “Usually a couple times a week. I’ll order ahead whenever I don't have time to make coffee before work, or if I’m feeling indulgent or have an extra busy day ahead and need an extra caffeine boost I'll stop in and pick something up. This is the first time I've been able to stay and drink my coffee here though.”
Steven nodded. He did recall seeing Dr. Y/L/N walking around with a takeout cup on occasion instead of her usual travel mug. “Ah, okay. I'm glad you invited me to join you, then.”
“I'm glad you accepted.” Dr. Y/L/N shrugged. “It's the least I could do after you were kind enough to go out of your way and offer to walk me home.”
Steven shook his head. “It’s really nothing, ma'am. I actually quite enjoy your company.” Moreso than you probably realize.
A small smile graced Dr. Y/L/N’s features. “That’s very kind of you to say. I enjoy your company as well.”
She bit her lip. “You know, actually, if you're not busy this weekend there's a –”
“–Y/N!”
Dr. Y/L/N startled slightly and looked over towards the counter, visibly relaxing as Michael set their tea and coffee down. “ Oh . Oh, our drinks are ready.”
Steven stood. “I'll go get them.”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded. “Okay, thanks.”
Steven walked over to the counter as Michael set a plate of pastries down as well.
“Here you are, mate,” Michael said. “Enjoy.”
Steven nodded. “Cheers.”
He managed to carefully carry everything back to the table and set Dr. Y/L/N’s coffee down in front of her. “Here you are, ma'am.”
Dr. Y/L/N smiled up at Steven as he set the plate of pastries down as well. “Thank you so much, Steven.”
Steven set his tea down and sat. “So what were you saying before our items were ready?”
Dr. Y/L/N shook her head. “Oh, it was nothing.”
She took a careful sip of her coffee. “But I would be remiss if I didn't ask you how you've been this week. Anything fun and exciting going on in the world of Steven?”
Steven shook his head as he added a small teaspoon of sugar to his tea and stirred it in. “Just researching the provenance of the new vases we got in the other day while in between tours. Christina said she wanted to include them in our special display of Austrian art that's opening next month.”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded. “Ah, wonderful. Have you found anything so far?”
“Actually, yes, it's quite intriguing.” Steven took a sip of his tea. “It appears that at least one of the vases was made for a member of the Austrian royal family back in the 1700s before it was eventually given to a loyal subject as a wedding gift and passed down through several generations, but then it was taken in a raid by the Germans during World War II and somehow wound up in the hands of a French army general, who gifted it to an American soldier as -- ironically -- a wedding present.”
Dr. Y/L/N looked riveted. “Oh, wow. That is rather intriguing.”
“It made its way through several generations of that family until it was discovered that it had been stolen all those years ago, so it was then returned to the rightful owner,” Steven continued, “who donated it to the collection so that everyone could enjoy it. It's because of its illustrious history that Christina and I were thinking it should be the centerpiece of the exhibit.”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded. “Yes, you're absolutely right. That piece should definitely be the focus. Do we have anything else to display along with it, like letters or photos of the families, anything of that sort?”
Steven shook his head. “We discovered a few photos of the two families each holding the vase while we were researching, but unfortunately there isn't much else.”
“That's okay.” Dr. Y/L/N took another sip of her coffee. “Everything else is good? How's the new guide working out?”
“He’s doing well so far.” Steven took a bite of his croissant, chewing and swallowing before continuing. “The fact that he has prior experience as a tour guide definitely was a plus -- he didn't need much training and seems to be catching on pretty quickly.”
“Excellent. I'm glad to hear that.” Dr. Y/L/N paused. “If you don't mind me asking, what kind of tea is that? It smells good.”
“Earl Grey,” Steven replied. “Have you ever tried it?”
Dr. Y/L/N shook her head. “No, I've only ever had regular tea.”
Steven bit back a smile. “‘Regular’ tea?”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded. “Yeah, you know… just tea at restaurants and stuff.”
“Ah, gotcha. So basically just plain black tea, then.”
“Mmhmm.” Dr. Y/L/N took another sip of her coffee. “Sweetened, of course, but yeah. So what's the difference between Earl Grey and regular black tea?”
Steven took a sip before answering. “Earl Grey has bergamot in it, which gives it sort of a citrusy flavor.”
Dr. Y/L/N’s eyebrows raised slightly. “Oh, that sounds interesting. I might have to try it one day. Any others you recommend?”
Steven nodded. “There's also Lady Grey, which has lemon and orange in addition to bergamot, and if you want to try something really interesting you should try chai, which has all sorts of spices, like cinnamon, and star anise, and cardamom, and it literally means ‘tea’ so if you ever go somewhere and order chai tea you're ordering ‘tea tea’ .”
Dr. Y/L/N let out a light laugh. “I'll have to remember that.”
Steven and Dr. Y/L/N continued to chat, occasionally pausing to take a sip of their beverages or a bite of their pastries.
“Ready to go?” Dr. Y/L/N asked after they had both finished.
Steven nodded. He knew Dr. Y/L/N had had a long day and was probably ready to get home so she could rest. “Yes, if you are as well.”
They stood and cleared their table, then thanked Michael as they headed out of the door.
“Oh, it's stopped raining,” Dr. Y/L/N noted as they stepped outside. “I'm sure you want to get home since you no longer have to keep me dry, so I'll see you tomorrow?”
Steven shrugged in what he hoped appeared to be a casual manner. “I walked you this far, so the gentlemanly thing to do would be to walk you the rest of the way, right? If that's alright with you, of course.”
Dr. Y/L/N smiled softly. “You really are, aren't you? A gentleman, I mean.”
Steven’s face heated. None of the dreams he'd had about Dr. Y/L/N over the past several months he had known her could exactly be described as gentlemanly , but it wasn't like he could control his subconscious, was it?
He glanced down at the ground before making eye contact with her once again. “I try to be.”
Dr. Y/L/N grinned. “Well for what it's worth, I would choose you over the bear.”
Steven huffed out a laugh. “I appreciate that, ma'am.”
“Shall we continue on, then?”
They continued down the street, continuing to chat amiably as they walked.
Eventually Dr. Y/L/N stopped in front of a small apartment building. “Well, this is me. Thanks so much for walking me home, Steven. I sincerely appreciate it.”
Steven shook his head. “The pleasure was all mine, ma'am. I'd be happy to walk you home any time.”
Dr. Y/L/N nodded with a smile. “I might take you up on that soon, then. I enjoyed our time together today.”
“I did too.”
Dr. Y/L/N hesitated a moment, then shook her head slightly. “I'll see you tomorrow, Steven.”
See you tomorrow.”
Steven waited until Dr. Y/L/N had unlocked the door and headed inside before turning and heading back towards his bus stop. He had already been struggling with fighting his feelings for Dr. Y/L/N, but the kindness with which she treated him and the way she genuinely seemed to enjoy his company made him struggle even harder.
He shook his head. He'd never have a chance at a romantic relationship with her, but maybe they could at least be friends.

Top Software Development Skills to Master in 2025 (USA, UK, and Europe)
Tumblr media
As the tech landscape evolves rapidly across global hubs like the USA, UK, and Europe, developers are under increasing pressure to stay ahead of the curve. Businesses demand more efficient, scalable, and secure digital solutions than ever before. At the core of this transformation is the growing need for custom software development services, which empower companies to create tailored solutions for unique challenges. To thrive in 2025, developers must equip themselves with a set of advanced skills that align with market demands and emerging technologies. Let’s explore the top software development skills professionals should focus on mastering.
1. Proficiency in AI and Machine Learning
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are no longer niche skills—they’re now essential. In the USA and the UK, AI is being heavily integrated into industries like healthcare, finance, retail, and cybersecurity. Developers who understand ML algorithms, neural networks, and AI model deployment will have a competitive edge.
Mastering platforms like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and tools for natural language processing (NLP) will become increasingly important. European companies are also investing heavily in ethical AI and transparency, so familiarity with responsible AI practices is a plus.
2. Cloud-Native Development
Cloud platforms like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud dominate the tech infrastructure space. Developers must understand how to build, deploy, and maintain cloud-native applications to remain relevant.
In the UK and Germany, hybrid cloud adoption is growing, and in the USA, multi-cloud strategies are becoming standard. Learning serverless computing (e.g., AWS Lambda), containerization with Docker, and orchestration with Kubernetes will be vital for delivering scalable software solutions in 2025.
3. Full-Stack Web Development
The demand for versatile developers continues to grow. In Europe and the USA, companies are seeking professionals who can work across both frontend and backend stacks. Popular frameworks and technologies include:
Frontend: React.js, Vue.js, Svelte
Backend: Node.js, Python (Django/FastAPI), Java (Spring Boot), Ruby on Rails
A deep understanding of APIs, authentication methods (OAuth 2.0, JWT), and performance optimization is also crucial for delivering a seamless user experience.
4. Cybersecurity Knowledge
With the rise in data breaches and stricter regulations like GDPR and CCPA, secure coding practices have become non-negotiable. In 2025, developers must be well-versed in threat modeling, secure APIs, and encryption protocols.
The demand for developers who can write secure code and integrate security into every stage of the development lifecycle (DevSecOps) is particularly high in financial and governmental institutions across Europe and North America.
5. DevOps and CI/CD Expertise
Modern development is no longer just about writing code—it’s about delivering it efficiently and reliably. DevOps practices bridge the gap between development and operations, enabling continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD).
Familiarity with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, and Ansible is critical. In the USA and UK, these practices are embedded in most agile development workflows. Europe is also seeing a surge in demand for DevOps engineers with scripting and automation expertise.
6. Low-Code and No-Code Platforms
Low-code and no-code development are growing rapidly, especially among startups and SMEs across the UK, Netherlands, and Germany. While they don’t replace traditional coding, these platforms enable rapid prototyping and MVP development.
Developers who can integrate custom code with low-code platforms (like OutSystems, Mendix, and Microsoft Power Apps) will be highly valuable to businesses looking for quick yet flexible digital solutions.
7. Soft Skills and Cross-Cultural Collaboration
With more companies embracing remote work and distributed teams, communication and collaboration skills are becoming as important as technical expertise. Developers in global tech markets like the USA, UK, and France must be able to work effectively across time zones and cultures.
Fluency in English is often a baseline, but understanding team dynamics, empathy in problem-solving, and the ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders are key differentiators in today’s job market.
8. Domain Knowledge and Industry Focus
Lastly, developers who pair technical skills with domain expertise—whether in finance, health tech, logistics, or sustainability—are becoming increasingly sought-after. For example, fintech innovation is booming in London and Frankfurt, while sustainability-focused tech is on the rise in the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
Understanding regulatory environments, business logic, and customer needs within a specific sector will help developers create more impactful solutions.
Conclusion
The future of software development is shaped by flexibility, innovation, and specialization. Developers aiming to succeed in the fast-paced tech ecosystems of the USA, UK, and Europe must invest in these evolving skillsets to remain competitive and future-proof their careers.
For organizations looking to turn ideas into reality, partnering with a trusted software development company can bridge the gap between technical complexity and business goals—especially when those developers are fluent in the languages, technologies, and trends that will define the next decade.

How Custom Web Development in India helps to grow Your Business
In today's fast-paced online environment, it just won't do to have a generic website. As companies compete more and more for online attention, having a bespoke web presence that is designed specifically for your brand and audience is not a luxury but a necessity. This is where custom web development in India comes in, providing robust, scalable, and affordable solutions that enable companies to shine in the noisy online environment.
Tumblr media
What is Custom Web Development?
Custom web development is the methodology of designing and coding websites tailored to the specific needs of a business. Contrary to using ready-made templates or off-the-shelf solutions, custom websites are developed from the ground up. This implies design, layout, functionality, and user interface are all in harmony with your business goals and target audience.
Custom websites tend to have more sophisticated features like user dashboards, APIs, e-commerce integration, CRM integration, or booking systems—something that may not be possible in vanilla platforms.
Why India for Custom Web Development?
India has been established as a world leader in IT services, and custom web development is no different. Following are some reasons why companies around the world prefer to work with Indian web development firms:
1. Cost-Effectiveness:
Indian web development firms provide top-notch service at much lower costs than US, UK, or Australian developers. This easily allows startups and medium-sized enterprises to easily pay for quality custom development without bankrupting them.
2. Talented Talent Pool:
India boasts an immense talent pool of highly experienced web developers skilled in technologies including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, Python, Ruby on Rails, and technologies like Laravel, React, Angular, and Node.js. Front-end or back-end development, Indian developers have expertise and innovation to offer.
3. Time Zone Advantage:
The time difference works to the advantage of clients in the West. Indian teams can offer overnight turnaround for updates and changes so that your project gets accelerated.
4. Quality and Reliability:
Indian web development agencies, with most following international coding standards and best practices in security, SEO, and responsive design, are taking a high level of interest in quality assurance. With a majority of firms ensuring your website is bug-free, fast, and scalable, the focus on quality is growing.
Key Aspects of a Custom Web Development Project
When you hire a custom web development firm in India, this is what you can expect, in general:
Personalized Design: The UI/UX is designed keeping your brand identity and your audience in mind.
Sustainable Architecture: Your site is developed to expand along with your business, if you increase services, locations, or products.
Third-Party Integrations: From payment gateways to marketing tools and CRMs, integrations are seamless and customized.
Mobile Optimization: Custom websites are fully responsive, giving an optimal experience across devices.
Performance Optimization: Speed, security, and SEO-friendliness are given top priority in development.
Industries That Are Benefiting from Custom Development in India
From medical software to online shopping, education to banking, Indian developers work in a variety of industries. Whether your business requires an enterprise web portal or a simple site for a design agency, there's a team in India with the domain expertise.
Selecting the Right Development Partner
While India has lots to choose from, it's best to have a company with a good portfolio, good client feedback, and clear communication. Request case studies, familiarize yourself with their development process, and make sure they provide post-launch assistance.
Final Thoughts
Having custom web development done in India provides your company with the competitive advantage it requires. Under the able guidance of a capable team, you do not merely have a website; you have a digital property that is specifically designed to drive growth, interact with users, and develop your individual brand. As advancements in technology continually occur, engaging in a bespoke solution with a seasoned Indian development partner may one day prove to be one of the brightest business moves for your company's future.

Top Programming Languages for Web App Development in 2025
Tumblr media
In 2025, Web App Development continues to evolve rapidly, with businesses seeking high-performing, scalable, and secure digital solutions. Whether you're a startup looking for MVP development or an enterprise modernizing legacy systems, choosing the right programming language can significantly affect your application's success. As a Web App Development Company in the UK, we understand that the tech stack determines not just performance but also the Web App Development Cost, team scalability, and future maintenance.
1. JavaScript and TypeScript: Still Reigning Supreme
JavaScript remains the backbone of modern web apps. Combined with powerful frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js, it ensures rich UI/UX experiences. TypeScript, a superset of JavaScript, has gained huge traction in 2025 due to its static typing and better scalability for larger projects. If you're planning to hire Web App Development developers, a JavaScript- or TypeScript-based stack is a safe, future-proof choice.
2. Python: Great for Rapid Development
Python continues to be a go-to choice for startups and SMEs due to its simplicity and wide community support. Frameworks like Django and Flask enable fast development with clean, maintainable code. Python is particularly useful for integrating AI and ML capabilities into web apps—an area many Web App Development companies are focusing on this year.
3. Ruby: Ideal for MVPs and Agile Web Development
Ruby, particularly Ruby on Rails, is still favored for rapid MVP development and agile web projects. It’s perfect for businesses that want to launch quickly and iterate based on user feedback. As a Web App Development Service, we often recommend Ruby to clients with evolving product visions and short go-to-market timelines.
Book an Appointment with Our Experts
Let’s discuss your project requirements, budget, and timeline to help you choose the best language and tech stack.
4. Go (Golang): The Performance-Oriented Choice
Go is gaining popularity for backend development where performance and concurrency are critical. Companies that need scalable microservices and high-performing APIs are increasingly turning to Go. If you're aiming to optimize backend speed without sacrificing developer productivity, Go is worth considering.
5. PHP (with Laravel): Still Relevant in 2025
While PHP may seem outdated to some, frameworks like Laravel have kept it modern and efficient. It's a solid option for content-driven websites, CRMs, and small to medium-sized web applications. Many Web App Development Companies still rely on PHP for specific types of projects due to its stability and large pool of available developers.
6. Kotlin and Swift (for Cross-Platform Web & Mobile)
Though traditionally mobile languages, Kotlin (with Kotlin Multiplatform) and Swift are now seeing some traction in full-stack and cross-platform environments. They are emerging in hybrid Web App Development Services where seamless interaction between mobile and web platforms is critical.
How to Choose the Right Language?
Choosing the right programming language depends on:
The type of application (MVP, enterprise-grade, eCommerce, etc.)
Your budget and timeline
Availability of developers
Long-term maintenance
That’s why working with an experienced Web App Development Company can make all the difference. A reliable partner will help balance tech choices with business goals and offer transparent Web App Development Cost estimates.
Whether you're looking to hire Web App Development developers for a custom solution or want a complete product built from scratch, it's crucial to align your language and framework choice with your growth strategy. Our Web App Development Company in the UK offers tailored Web App Development Services that fit your needs, budget, and long-term vision.

Phone Number Library: The Backbone of Modern Telecommunication Software
Introduction
In today’s digitally driven world, phone numbers serve as critical identifiers for individuals and businesses alike. Whether it’s authenticating a user, sending a message, or dialing a call, the phone number is central to modern communication systems. However, handling phone numbers across different countries, formats, and use cases is no trivial task. This is where a Phone Number Library becomes invaluable.
A phone number library is a software component that enables developers to validate, parse, format, and manage phone numbers across global telecommunications standards. These libraries are crucial in mobile apps, CRM systems, phone number library  messaging services, and any software that interacts with phone numbers. This article explores the concept of a phone number library, its components, popular implementations, challenges, privacy concerns, and future relevance.
What is a Phone Number Library?
A Phone Number Library is a collection of tools, functions, or APIs that provide developers with robust capabilities to handle phone numbers programmatically. Its key responsibilities typically include:
Parsing: Extracting meaningful data from a raw phone number string
Validation: Checking whether a phone number is valid for a given region or format
Formatting: Converting numbers into local, international, or E.164 formats
Carrier Lookup: Identifying the telecom provider associated with a number
Region Detection: Identifying the country or location based on number prefix
Normalization: Cleaning up and unifying numbers for consistent processing
By using a phone number library, developers can avoid pitfalls associated with regional formatting, country codes, and inconsistent user inputs.
Why Do We Need Phone Number Libraries?
Phone numbers are deceptively complex. Consider this:
Different countries have varying lengths for numbers (e.g., 10 digits in the US, up to 15 in others).
Local formats vary: a UK number might be +44 20 7946 0958, while a US number is +1 (202) 555-0190.
Some numbers are mobile, others landlines, toll-free, or VoIP.
Inputs from users can be inconsistent: 001-202-555-0190, 202.555.0190, (202)5550190.
A robust phone number library abstracts these challenges and ensures accurate handling across global systems, enabling:
Internationalization
Reliable communication
Accurate billing
Fraud prevention
Enhanced user experience
Core Features of a Phone Number Library
Parsing and Formatting Parses unstructured input and converts it to a standardized form:
Local Format: (415) 555-2671
International Format: +1 415-555-2671
E.164 Format (standardized): +14155552671
Validation Verifies if a number is:
The correct length for the region
Using a valid country or area code
Associated with a mobile, landline, or VoIP line
Carrier and Region Identification Determines:
Mobile carrier (e.g., Verizon, Vodafone)
Country and locality
Line type (mobile, landline, toll-free)
Number Formatting for Display or Storage Adjusts the number based on:
Country-specific formatting rules
User locale or UI requirements
Storage standards like E.164
Localization Support Allows developers to handle phone numbers according to cultural and national standards for input, display, and processing.
Popular Phone Number Libraries
1. Libphone number by Google
The most widely used phone number library, originally created for Android. It supports:
Parsing, validation, formatting, and geocoding
Over 200 countries and territories
Carrier lookup and timezone info
Multiple language support
Languages Available:
Java (original)
JavaScript, Python, C#, Go (ports)
2. PhoneNumberKit (Swift)
An iOS-compatible version inspired by libphone number:
Easy to use in iOS applications
Fully localized and supports real-time formatting
Lightweight and well-maintained
3. Phony (Ruby)
Popular in the Ruby ecosystem for working with international phone numbers:
E.164 formatting
National and international formats
Country-specific rules
4. libphonenumber-js (JavaScript)
A lightweight version of libphone number for web applications:
Smaller bundle size
Useful for form validations
Ideal for front-end validation on browsers
How Phone Number Libraries are Used in Applications
1. User Registration and Authentication
Apps often use phone numbers for sign-up and verification via OTP. A phone number library ensures:
Correct formatting
No duplication (e.g., +1 202-555-0190 = 0012025550190)
Region-based validation
2. CRM and Contact Management
In enterprise software:
Ensures uniformity in contact databases
Supports global customer outreach
Enables filtering and reporting based on country/region
3. Messaging and Calling Apps
Used to:
Format numbers before dialing or sending a message
Detect line type (mobile vs landline)
Prevent spam or invalid call attempts
4. E-commerce and Delivery Apps
Valid phone numbers are critical for order confirmations, delivery updates, and support communication.
5. Fraud Prevention
Detects anomalies such as:
Invalid or spoofed numbers
SIM farms or mass registration attempts
Geolocation mismatches

Implementing a Phone Number Library: Code Example
Here’s a quick example using libphonenumber-js in JavaScript:
import { parsePhoneNumberFromString } from 'libphonenumber-js'
const phone = parsePhoneNumberFromString('+14155552671')
if (phone.isValid()) {
    console.log('Region:', phone.country)
    console.log('E.164 Format:', phone.format('E.164'))
    console.log('National Format:', phone.formatNational())
}
This simple code:
Validates the number
Extracts country
Outputs the number in multiple formats
Challenges in Using Phone Number Libraries
Despite their utility, developers face certain challenges:
1. Constant Updates
Numbering plans change frequently. Libraries need to update regularly to stay current with telecom regulations.
2. Data Size
Some versions of libphone number are large, making them unsuitable for client-side apps without tree-shaking or slimming.
3. Privacy Implications
Using carrier lookup and region detection can raise privacy issues, especially in regulated markets.
4. False Positives
A number may be valid in structure but still be unreachable or dormant.
Privacy and Compliance Considerations
Handling phone number data must comply with data protection regulations like:
GDPR (EU)
Phone numbers are considered personal data.
Must obtain consent for processing.
Users have the right to request deletion and access to their data.
CCPA (California)
Requires transparency in phone data collection.
Users must be able to opt out of data selling or sharing.
Industry Best Practices
Never store raw user inputs without normalization.
Encrypt stored numbers, especially if combined with other identifiers.
Provide clear terms about how numbers are used.
Future of Phone Number Libraries
As global connectivity evolves, phone number libraries are adapting to meet new demands:
1. Support for eSIM and Virtual Numbers
With the rise of digital SIMs and temporary phone numbers, libraries are being updated to recognize and manage these new identifiers.
2. AI Integration
Phone data is being used to feed machine learning models that detect fraud, personalize communication, or predict churn.
3. Real-time Validation APIs
Developers now have access to API-based services that not only validate format but also check if the number is active or reachable in real time.
4. Voice Assistant and IoT Expansion
As devices like smart speakers and IoT gadgets adopt voice calling, phone libraries will need to be embedded in non-traditional environments.
